Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, removes excess fat and skin and, in most cases, restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother, flatter and more firm. A large incision is required but it lies below the bikini line in most cases. Surgery requires general anesthesia and often an overnight hospital stay. Recovery takes about two weeks.
A mini tummy tuck is less invasive and is well-suited to those who simply have loose, excess skin at the waistline. This procedure has a smaller incision and shorter recovery. A mini abdominoplasty can often be performed with sedation under local anesthesia.
